Das Mittelland bildet neben dem Jura und den Alpen eine der drei Grosslandschaften der Schweiz und macht etwa 30 % der schweizerischen Landesfläche aus. Es umfasst das teils flache, weitgehend jedoch hügelige Gebiet zwischen Jura und Alpen und liegt im Mittel auf einer Höhe von 400 bis 600 m ü. M. Es ist die weitaus am dichtesten besiedelte Region der Schweiz und dadurch auch wirtschaftlich und verkehrstechnisch der bedeutendste Grossraum des Landes.

The Swiss plateau (plateau suisse in French, Schweizer Mittelland in German) constitutes one of the three major landscapes in Switzerland alongside the Jura mountains and the Alps. It covers about 30% of the Swiss surface. It comprises the regions between the Jura and the Alps, partly flat but mostly hilly, and lies at an average height between 400 and 600 meters AMSL. It is by far the most densely populated region of Switzerland, and the most important with respect to economy and transportation.

Le plateau suisse (Mittelland en allemand) est l'un des trois ensembles géographiques de la Suisse, situé entre la chaîne du Jura et les Alpes et représente environ 30 % de la surface du pays. Il comprend toute la région située entre le Jura et les Alpes, formée partiellement de plaines, mais principalement de collines, et son altitude moyenne varie entre 400 et 600 m. C'est de loin la région la plus densément peuplée de Suisse, et par conséquent l'espace le plus influent du pays concernant l'économie et les transports.
