Curitiba is the capital city of the Brazilian state of Paraná. The city has the largest population, the largest economy in the State and also in southern Brazil. According to the American magazine Reader's Digest, Curitiba is the best place to live in Brazil. The population of Curitiba numbers approximately 1.8 million people (7th largest nationwide) and the latest GDP figures for the city surpass US$17 billion (ranking 4th nationwide) according to IBGE.
Its metropolitan area comprises 26 municipalities with a total population of over 3.2 million (IBGE estimate in 2006). Curitiba is an important cultural, political and economic center in the country. The city sits on a plateau at 932 metres (3,058 ft) above sea level. It is located 105 kilometres (65 mi) west of the sea port of Paranaguá and it is served by Afonso Pena International and Bacacheri airports.

É a sétima cidade mais populosa do Brasil e a maior do sul do país, com uma população de 1.851.215 habitantes. É a cidade principal da Região Metropolitana de Curitiba, formada por 26 municípios e que possui 3.172.357 habitantes sobre uma área de 15.447 km2; o que a torna a oitava região metropolitana mais populosa do Brasil.

Curitiba ist eine Großstadt in Brasilien und Hauptstadt des Bundesstaates Paraná. Die Stadt liegt auf einer Hochebene im Landesinneren, ca. 90 Kilometer entfernt vom Hafen Paranaguá und hat etwa 1,7 Millionen Einwohner. Die geografischen Koordinaten sind 25,42° südliche Breite und 49,29° westliche Länge, die Höhe über dem Meeresspiegel beträgt 934 Meter.
